Press release: Intercultural Journeys presents a family concert featuring Elena moon park

On April 19, Intercultural Journeys welcomes Brooklyn-based educator and musician Elena Moon Park in the fifth and final concert of the 2014/15 Songs for Peace season.  Elena will present her acclaimed family folk album Rabbit Days and Dumplings, which is a celebration of folk and children's music from all over East Asia, reinterpreted to mix various musical traditions, languages, styles, and stories.

On March 6, Intercultural Journeys will welcome The Liberian Women's Chorus for Change. Committed to inspiring awareness and dialogue about domestic violence and other contemporary problems facing African immigrant communities in the Philadelphia region, the Liberian Women’s Chorus for Change will present traditional and original songs for the fourth concert in the Songs for Peace season.

press release: Intercultural journeys presents the apple hill string quartet

On February, 7 2015, Intercultural Journeys will welcome the Apple Hill String Quartet with clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and pianist Sally Pinkas. This performance features the Philadelphia premiere of "Traces" from Emmy-nominated composer Kareem Roustom. "Traces," which was commissioned specifically for string quartet, clarinet, and piano, evokes the imagery of an abandoned Bedouin camp and examines the themes of love, loss, memory, life, death, and longing for the past.

Specializing in the rich musical heritage of Afro-Brazilian culture, percussionist and vocalist Alex Shaw will be debuting new work featuring his contemporary interpretation of traditional rhythms and songs of northeastern Brazil.  This special program showcases the Afro-Brazilian tradition of capoeira, whose history is rooted in cultural resistance and social justice.
