“One Book, One Philadelphia” Closing Event: Philadelphia's Golha

Date:

Negin Moshtagh, Daf

This free event will highlight the significance of the Golha broadcasts in Persian culture in the decades leading up to the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979. The Golha broadcasts began in 1956 as a series of weekly radio programs that featured the foremost Iranian musicians, vocalists, literary critics, and poets performing selections of the best modern and classical Persian music and poetry. In collaboration with Intercultural Journeys, the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra welcomes to the stage some of Philadelphia's own prominent poets, authors, and musicians to celebrate Iran’s rich cultural and artistic heritage, as well as this year’s featured reading selection, Marjane Satrapi’s The Complete Persepolis. Through a unique live recreation of a Golha radio program, the Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra will provide a richer cultural musical context for Satrapi’s childhood experiences.
